AIKEN, S.C. — Registration is now open for a special fishing challenge at the Savannah River Site.
Through Thursday, wounded warriors and disabled fishermen can register for the Savannah River Site’s First Ultimate Fishing Challenge, scheduled for May 9.
The challenge will be a catch and release event, and participants will be paired with site employees, who will help them by providing boats, fishing equipment and life jackets.
Forms are available at www.fs.usda.gov/savannahriver , and registration ends Thursday. Fifteen participants will be randomly selected by a drawing.
The Savannah River Site is a 310-square mile complex near Aiken. Nuclear weapons components were once made there, but now most of the activity at the site is focused on cleanup. There are also annual turkey and deer hunts at the site.
