Shot fired as robber flees; suspect arrested

Charleston County Sheriff's deputies were investigating a shooting Tuesday at a shopping center on Bohicket Road.

A barber shop owner fired a warning shot Tuesday as a man who tried to rob a nearby beauty shop on Johns Island fled, authorities said.

A suspect was arrested, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies responded at 4:37 p.m. to Streamers Beauty at 1816 Bohicket Road, after a reported armed robbery attempt. A man entered the business, approached the counter and showed a gun to an employee -- who yelled about being robbed, according to a report.

The owner of an adjoining barber shop, Genesis Hair Salon, responded to the beauty shop while armed, and the suspect ran out from the beauty shop to the area behind the businesses, Sheriff's Maj. Jim Brady said.

He said barber shop owner reported he firied one warning shot as the suspect ran.

Deputies in the area of Pizza Hut arrested James Patrick McEntyre, 26, of Burnswick Drive, Johns Island. He will face an armed robbery charge, Brady said.
