Rain threatens College of Charleston’s NCAA baseball opener vs. Georgia Tech

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — As soon as College of Charleston’s baseball team walked into McKethan Stadium this morning, rain began to fall and the tarp was rolled out on the field.

The Cougars’ NCAA regional opener against Georgia Tech is slated to begin at 1 p.m., but overcast skies and a gloomy forecast could threaten that start time.

College of Charleston (37-20), seeded No. 3 and making its fifth NCAA appearance and second in three years, will start junior pitcher Christian Powell (9-3, 2.39 ERA) when the game does start.

No. 2 Georgia Tech (36-24) will go with freshman pitcher Cole Pitts, saving ace Buck Farmer for a potential matchup with No. 1 seed Florida in Saturday.

The Gators are scheduled to take on No. 4 Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m. today.
