STATESBORO, Ga. -- The Citadel will have to wait at least one more day to claim an outright Southern Conference baseball championship.

The Bulldogs' game at Georgia Southern on Friday night was suspended in the eighth inning because of rain, with The Citadel holding a 7-2 lead over the Eagles.

The game will be resumed at 1 p.m. today, followed by the series finale at about 2:30 p.m.

The Citadel (36-20, 22-6) needs to win one game today to claim sole possession of the SoCon regular season title, and the top seed for next week's SoCon tournament at Riley Park.

The Bulldogs clinched at least a share of the regular season title with a 9-4 win over GSU (34-20, 19-9) on Thursday.

In Friday's suspended game, second baseman Bryan Altman slugged two home runs, a solo shot in the second and a two-run blast in the sixth.

Justin Mackert and Grant Richards added solo homers, and Matt Simonelli had an RBI double in the fifth and a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Starting pitcher Matt Talley worked seven innings, giving up two runs with five strikeouts. The Bulldogs' were five outs from victory when the game was called.
