CONWAY — Pinewood Prep’s four-year reign as SCISA Class AAA state golf champion is over.

Hilton Head Prep wrestled the crown away from the Panthers on Tuesday afternoon with a 603-622 victory at Coastal Carolina University in Conway.

“Hilton Head Prep played well,” Pinewood coach Greg Bachtle said. “It wasn’t that we lost, they won. You can’t play defense in golf. We played well. They played better.”

Wood Woodward of Hilton Head Prep won medallist honors with a two-day score of 144. Pinewood’s Richard Hubbard was right behind with a 146.

Hilton Head Christian was third with a score of 624. Porter-Gaud claimed sixth place with a 671.
