Phil Bowman’s week was almost perfect. But his one mistake kept him from taking the lead from WCBD’s Brendan Clark in the Pick 6 Contest as the regular season winds down.

Bowman, who covers prep football for The Post and Courier, successfully picked Wando’s huge win against Stratford. But he blew it by picking Summerville to lose at Beaufort. Rumor has it that Summerville coach John McKissick has benned ban Bowman from the school’s pre-game buffet. Clark picked the Wave to win, but was wrong on his Stratford pick.

Both pundits were 5-1 last week and head into Week 9 with 40-8 records.

Goose Creek at Wando

Bowman: Went with Wando last week. This week, it is ... Goose Creek, 28-14.

Clark: Toughest game of the year for Gators: Goose Creek squeaks by, 35-31.

Colleton County at Summerville

Bowman: John McKissick gets career victory No. 599. Summerville 23-0.

Clark: One win closer. Green Wave 28-7.

Hanahan at Hilton Head

Bowman: Hawks ready to run the Region 8-AAA schedule. Hanahan, 24-16.

Clark: Key loss for Hilton Head at RB. Hawks win 35-14.

Bishop England at Woodland

Bowman: This will settle the Region 6-AA race. Bishop England, 17-14.

Clark: Both teams have been dominant. Going with home field advantage. Woodland wins 28-27.

West Ashley at Stratford

Bowman: Bet you it was a tough week of practice for Knights. Stratford, 24-17.

Clark: Knights bounce back, but it’s not easy. Stratford 28-21.

Palmetto Christian at Hilton Head Christian

Bowman: Battle for SCISA Class AA supremacy. PCA, 24-12.

Clark: Could be a long ride home. PCA falls 36-24.
