Hard to believe that it’s the halfway point for most high school football teams around the state of South Carolina. The weather is cooling down and the matchups are heating up. Now all we need are the leaves to change colors and the teams to show their true colors.
Friday’s schedule includes this week’s Game of the Century: Dutch Fork at Goose Creek. It should be an offensive shootout.
This week, The Post and Courier’s Phil Bowman will test his talent against News Channel 4 anchor Dean Stephens.
Here are this week’s picks:
Dutch Fork at Goose Creek
Stephens: No. 3 vs. No. 4. Dutch Fork averages nearly 50 points a game, but the Creek scores more, 45-41 home team.
Bowman: The stat men will be worn out after this one. Goose Creek, 28-24
Stratford at Colleton County
Stephens: Stratford continues to roll, 42-7.
Bowman: Park will pick Colleton apart. Stratford, 35-13.
Wando at Fort Dorchester
Stephens: Wando’s backs are against the wall. A must-win means a win. Wando, 21-20.
Bowman: Fort Dorchester has a very good team. Fort Dorchester, 24-17.
West Ashley at Summerville
Stephens: Summerville struggled in its win against Wando, but no one puts coach McKissick in a corner. Wave wins, 28-14
Bowman: West Ashley is this year’s version of Wando. Wildcats, 24-21.
Timberland at Berkeley
Stephens: the battle of the county — let’s roll the dice. Stags win a close one, 21-20.
