Ashley Hall volleyball standout Kathryn Pearce realized a lifelong dream when she recently signed a scholarship to play for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.

"I always expected to play there," said Pearce, who was a second-team All-Lowcountry selection and SCISA all-state pick. My parents (Robert and Pamela) both went there for graduate school. My brothers go there, and one is graduating this weekend. My uncles went there and most of my aunts went there. Some people grow up Clemson fans. Well, I grew up a Gamecock fan."

Pearce was the starting libero on back-to-back SCISA Class AAA state champions. She also was an all-tournament selection for the Porter-Gaud Invitational, the Dorman Tournament of Champions, the Wando Invitational, and was named Ashley Hall's co-player of the year.

"My most vivid memory of Kathryn came during the state title match against Porter-Gaud," coach Franny Slay said. "The Cyclones had forced a fifth game with a furious rally and we were locked in a tense, point-for-point battle when Kathryn made an impossible dig, kept the play alive, and we won the point.

"From that instant, everyone settled down, we took control, won the game and the championship. It was just an amazing play."
