Patriots’ Alford finally wins wrestling gold

ANDERSON -- Fort Dorchester’s A.J. Alford finally collected gold, Goose Creek’s Rubin brothers won a pair of state titles and Burke’s Santarion Frasier wrapped up a perfect season on Saturday at the S.C. High School League individual wrestling championships.

Alford, a Navy-bound senior who had finished third the last two years, claimed a Class AAAA state title with an 8-1 win over Dorman’s Dalton Simpson at 170 pounds.

Goose Creek’s Caleb and Christian Rubin, twin brothers, each won AAAA state titles. Caleb took the 220-pound class with a 16-6 win over Shemar DeGannes of Woodmont. Christian won at 182 pounds by pinning Kadarius Bunch of Spring Valley.

Burke’s Frasier ran his record on the season to 46-0 by taking the Class AA-A title at 152 pounds with a 10-6 win over Liam McKinney of Powdersville.

Also in AAAA, Fort Dorchester’s Johnathan Parker took the 160-pound title with an 11-2 victory over Tyler Carnes of Dutch Fork.
