Pinewood Prep golfer Lushen Evans stole the show on the final day of teammate Austin Cody's brilliant career.
Allen shot a 4-under par 68 Tuesday to rally the Panthers to their third straight SCISA Class AAA state championship. The Panthers trailed by one shot after Monday's play at Quail Creek in Conway to post a 588-590 victory over Porter-Gaud.
"It's probably the best round he's shot in four years under me," Pinewood Prep coach Greg Baechtle said. "He clearly carried us today."
Allen finished with a two-day score of 143. Cody and Richard Hubbard both shot 145s. Cody played for Pinewood for eight years and was All-State seven times.
"An unparalleled career in SCISA golf," Baechtle said. "And, I am sure he will do well at Duke, too."
Ryan Cavenaugh of Pinewood finished with a 155.
Davis Saul led Porter-Gaud with a 145. Charles Valluzzo tallied a 148 and Tucker Snively carded a 150. Zach Grossman and Dane Derbyshire both recorded 151s.
"It is quite a thrill to win the state title," Baechtle said. "We played in six tournaments this year, and I told the guys this is the one we want to win. We played erratically. Sometimes we would play well. Sometimes we didn't. But we got the performances today when we needed it."
