Former South Carolina standout Jackie Bradley Jr. has been recalled to the big leagues by the Boston Red Sox.
Bradley, who hit just .097 in 12 games with the Sox to start the season, will rejoin the team in Philadelphia in time for tonight’s game.
At Class AAA Pawtucket, Bradley has hit .437 with five doubles, a triple, two home runs, 11 runs scored and six runs batted-in over the last 12 games after overcoming a bout with shoulder tendinitis.
“Once he got past the shoulder tendinitis, he got back on the field much like we saw in spring training with his defense,’’ Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters. “Two good plays last night. He doubled off a guy with a throw. Threw out another runner. He hit a home run and double last night. He’s been swinging the bat very well.’’
Among Lowcountry players in pro baseball:
• Matt Wieters (Stratford HS) was 1 for 4 and scored a run in the Orioles’ 9-3 loss to the Nationals. He hit his 13th double and is batting .244.
• Brett Gardner (Holly Hill, College of Charleston) was 2 for 4 and scored the Yankees’ only run in a 2-1 loss to the Mets. He’s batting .264.
In the minors:
• Justin Greene (Stratford HS, Francis Marion) went 0 for 3 with a walk for Class AA Mobile and is batting .313.
• Pitcher Drew Cisco (Wando HS) got a no-decision despite a quality start for Class A Dayton, allowing seven hits and just one run over six innings. He walked one and struck out six, and is 2-3 with a 3.21 ERA for the season.
