Former Stratford High School standout Justin Greene has played in only 20 of his team’s 30 games this season, but is proving himself as one of the most adept base stealers in the Class AA Southern League.

Greene stole three bases in Mobile’s 4-2 loss to Huntsville on Sunday, giving him nine stolen bases for the season. That’s tied for fourth in the Southern League (with teammate and ex-Clemson star Mike Freeman). Greene has yet to be caught stealing and is batting .289.

Elsewhere among Lowcountry pro baseball players:

• Drew Cisco (Wando HS) took a hard-luck loss on Sunday, working five innings and allowing nine hits and two earned runs in Class A Dayton’s 2-0 loss to Kane County. Cisco walked three and struck out two, and is 2-2 with a 3.08 earned-run average. Kane County’s Michael Heesch, a product of USC-Beaufort, got the win in that game, working 71/3 shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out five.

• Chris McGuiness (James Island, The Citadel) was 1 for 6 in two games on the weekend, with two walks, a run scored and an RBI. He’s batting .239 for Class AAA Round Rock.

• Reese Havens (Bishop England, USC) was 2 for 4 in two games, raising his average to .276 for Class AAA Las Vegas.

• John Cornely (Bishop England, Wofford) had a strong outing on Friday, allowing one hit and striking out two in one inning. He’s 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA at Class A Lynchburg.

• Outfielder Marty Gantt (Mount Pleasant, College of Charleston) is batting .289 with four homers and 20 RBI for the Bowling Green Hot Rods in the Class A Midwest League.

In the majors:

• Brett Gardner (Holly Hill, C of C) wa 2 for 5 with a double and scored a run in the Yankee’s 5-4 loss to Oakland. He’s batting .271.

• Justin Smoak (Stratford, USC) was 0 for 3 but scored a run in the Mariners’ 10-2 loss to Toronto. He’s batting .234.

• Matt Wieters (Stratford) was 1 for 4 and scored a run in the Orioles’ 8-4 win over the Angels,and is batting .223.
