Palmetto Pros: Ex-Citadel standout Chris McGuiness has big night

Former Citadel standout Chris McGuiness doubled and drove in a run for Class AAA Round Rock on Monday night, highlighting a slow night for Lowcountry players in pro baseball.

McGuiness, from James Island, was 1 for 3 and also scored a run, raising his batting average to .242.


• Outfielder Marty Gantt (Mount Pleasant, College of Charleston) was 2 for 4 and scored a run for Class A Dayton. He’s batting .298 with four homers and 20 runs batted-in.

• Catcher John Murrian (Stratford HS, Winthrop) has been placed on the 7-day disabled list by Class A Lakeland.

In the majors, Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner (Holly Hill, College of Charleston), Orioles catcher Matt Wieters (Stratford HS) and Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak (Stratford HS, USC) all had the night off.
