Clemson to the Orange Bowl?

Or South Carolina?

ESPN's "Way too early" bowl projection is split. One analyst, Brett McMurphy, thinks the Gamecocks will play Florida State in the Orange Bowl this coming January. Another, Mark Schlabach, picks a Clemson-Auburn matchup.

McMurphy has Clemson playing Kansas State in the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando.

Schlabach has South Carolina facing Nebraska in the Outback Bowl in Tampa.

A new four-team playoff system for the 2014 season allows the Orange Bowl to choose a team from the SEC after the four playoff teams have been selected, unless the Orange Bowl is a semifinal site (as it is for the 2015-16 season). The ACC remains tied to one half of the Orange Bowl matchup.

South Carolina has never played one of the traditional major bowl games (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta).

Clemson has played in one Sugar Bowl and five Orange Bowls. The Tigers defeated Ohio State in the Orange Bowl last January.
