Ober, Hart honored by D1Baseball.com; Cougars picked second

D1Baseball.com named College of Charleston sophomore pitcher Bailey Ober the Colonial Athletic Association preseason Pitcher of the Year and tabbed Dupree Hart the preseason Freshman of the Year, while picking the Cougars to finish second in the league.

Ober earned preseason CAA honors after sitting out last season due to injury. The 6-foot-8 Charlotte native was named NCBWA Freshman of the Year and CAA Rookie of the Year following a 10-3 campaign in 2014 in which he posted a league-best 1.52 ERA.

Hart was two-sport star at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, where he was named 2015 South Carolina Mr. Baseball and was a finalist for Mr. Football after setting the state’s career receptions record. Hart batted .476 with collected 29 RBIs as a senior for the Trojans and led the baseball team to the Class AAAA title game as a junior.

Scrimmages continue at Founders Park in Columbia this week for South Carolina baseball.

Thursday’s scrimmage is slated for 3:45 p.m. with Friday’s scrimmage at 4 p.m. and Saturday’s tilt at 1 p.m. All three scrimmages are free and open to the public.
