GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Noah Perio went 3 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored to lead the Greensboro Grasshoppers over the Charleston RiverDogs, 8-4, in a South Atlantic League baseball game Friday night at NewBridge Bank Park.

Greensboro (12-10, 52-40) struck first to take a 2-0 first-inning lead against Charleston starter Steve Evarts (1-3). Perio led off with a single, and Marcell Ozuna followed by clubbing his 13th home run of the year over the right-field fence.

Charleston (10-12, 36-56) retaliated with two runs in the top of the second versus Zachary Neal (6-6). Gary Sanchez led off with a double and eventually came home to score three batters later when Garrison Lassiter smoked a two-out RBI single. Jose Mojica then ripped a sharp groundball inside the third base bag to bring in Taylor Grote, who had walked.

The Grasshoppers surged back in front for good with two runs in the bottom of the third. Perio was in the center of the action again, hammering an RBI double to drive in Joseph Bonadonna. Christian Yelich capped the damage by driving in Perio from third with an RBI groundout.

Kevin Mahoney and Kelvin De Leon helped pull the RiverDogs within 5-3 in the top of the sixth, slapping consecutive singles to put men in scoring position for Taylor Grote. Grote reached on a fielding error by Perio at second base, allowing Mahoney to scamper home all the way from second.

Grote and Lassiter combined to account for the final score in the top of the eighth off Greensboro reliever Chris Shafer. Grote was walked before racing around the bases from first to score on a Lassiter RBI double to the opposite field.

The RiverDogs begin the back end of their road trip with the first of a three-game series against the West Virginia Power today at 7:05 p.m.

Right-hander Zach Nuding (6-6, 4.54 ERA) is slated to take the mound for Charleston, facing fellow righty Tyler Waldron (6-5, 4.48 ERA).
