No. 8 South Carolina 5, Arkansas 3

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Whit Merrifield homered twice including a two-run blast in the top of the eighth inning and five Gamecocks relievers combined for six scoreless innings as South Carolina defeated Arkansas 5-3 to sweep a three-game series at Baum Stadium. The win improved the Gamecocks to 41-11 and 20-7 in the SEC while the loss dropped Arkansas to 38-14 and 16-11.

Trailing by a run, the Gamecocks made their move in the top of the eighth inning. Leadoff hitter Scott Wingo drew a walk and scored on Merrifield's 12th home run of the season giving the Gamecocks a 4-3 lead. Adrian Morales drove a solo homer to left center, his fifth of the season to give South Carolina an insurance run and a 5-3 advantage.

That was enough for freshman Matt Price, who picked up his seventh save of the season and second of the series.
