As one name was crossed off the list of possible candidates to coach basketball at The Citadel, a couple more have emerged.

Wichita State assistant coach Earl Grant, a North Charleston native and former Citadel assistant, has been hired as an assistant coach at Clemson, it was announced Monday. Grant had been linked to The Citadel job last week by a Fox Sports report.

Meanwhile, a source close to Citadel basketball said that VMI head coach Duggar Baucom and Maryland assistant Chuck Driesell, son of coaching legend Lefty Driesell, have been in contact with The Citadel.

Baucom is 69-81 in five seasons at Virginia Military Institute, including a 10-19 record last year and a 24-8 mark in '08-09. The Keydets led the NCAA in scoring in three straight seasons under Baucom, who also has worked as an assistant at Davidson and Western Carolina.

Driesell just finished his fourth season at Maryland under Gary Williams. He played for his father at Maryland from 1981-85, worked for him for nine seasons at James Madison and was head coach at Division III Marymount for six years.

Citadel athletic director Larry Leckonby is seeking a replacement for Ed Conroy, now at Tulane.

"We're talking more seriously to the guys on the short list now," Leckonby said Monday. "We're hoping to narrow it down within a matter of days."

Baucom and Driesell could not be reached for comment.
