Emma Navarro (USA), in her first professional match, defeated qualifier Stephanie Nemtsova (USA), 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, on Wednesday in the first round of the USTA Pro Circuit’s women’s LTP Charleston tournament at LPT Center in Mount Pleasant.

After the first-set loss, the rain came. The break seemed to help the 14-year-old Navarro, who came out and took the next two sets convincingly. Navarro will play her second-round match Thursday at approximately 11:30 a.m. at LTP Tennis Club, weather permitting.

In other action, Francesca DiLorenzo (USA), who plays for Ohio State University, took out second-seeded Laetitia Sarrazin (France), 6-7, 6-0, 6-0. DiLorenzo will play Navarro for a berth in the quarterfinals.

Meible Chi (USA) defeated Abigail Desiatnikov (USA), 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and Stefana Andrei (Romania) defeated Jaeda Daniel (USA), 6-3, 6-3. The lone seed to win Wednesday was fifth-seeded Natalia Siedliska (Germany), who defeated wild card Ashley Kratzer (USA), 6-3, 7-6 (1).

Four more main-draw matches were in progress and will resume at 10 a.m.
