The leaderboard remained the same Friday at the Bohicket Marina Invitational Billfish Tournament, but that also means there will be lots of drama for the final day of fishing in the South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series event.
My Three Sons is still in first place with 1,200 points for two blue marlin releases on Thursday. My Three Sons, owned by Hunter Edwards and captained by Michael Mattson, hooked and lost a blue marlin Friday but now has used its two allotted fishing days.
Two other boats also had 1,200 points for releasing two blue marlin Thursday, Mutts & Jeff and Miss Wy, and both are among the 19 boats that are eligible to fish Saturday.
Scoring in South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series tournaments is based on releases – 600 points for blue marlin, 300 for white marlin and 200 for sailfish – or one point per pound for blue marlin that meet the Governor’s Cup minimum size of 105 inches and are brought to the scales to be weighed.
There were five billfish releases Friday – a sailfish doubleheader by Caramba, blue marlin releases by Anticipation and Reel Passion and a sailfish release by Artemis.
Once again, there were no wahoo or tuna weighed and the heaviest dolphin is a 36.0-pound catch by Summer Girl on Thursday. My Three Sons came close to topping Summer Girl, weighing a 35.6-pound dolphin Friday.
Saturday’s final weigh-in begins at 5 p.m. with scales closing at 7:30 p.m.
