Mount Pleasant wins 12th straight track title

The Mount Pleasant Track Club won its 12th straight Junior Olympic State Meet held at Eastside High School in Taylors.

The team produced 33 state champions, including Aidan Richter, a rising ninth-grader who set state records in the following events — 13-14 800-meters, 2:07.75; 13-14 1500m, 4:29.77; and 13-14 3000m, 9:57.09. Richter also was a member of the state record 4x800 relay team with Ben McElveen, Luke Pauldine and Lyle Johnson.

Forty teams competed in the event with Mount Pleasant Track Club compiling 1,210 points. Florence was second with 523, followed by Team Blaze, 384; The Storm, 378; and Greenville Jets, 328. Mount Pleasant Track Club won 10 of the 12 age groups, 8-under boys, 9-10 girls, 9-10 boys, 11-12 boys, 13-14 girls, 13-14 boys, 15-16 girls, 15-16 boys, 17-8 girls and 17-18 boys.

The Sydney Ann Summer Shootout basketball camp will be held July 27-30 at Charleston Baptist. The camp is for boys and girls ages 7-15 with morning (8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) and afternoon (12:30-4:30 p.m.) sessions. The cost is $60 for one session or $100 for both sessions.

Shaun Haggerty, an assistant coach at West Ashley, is the camp director. All proceeds go to Crossbridge Family Ministries’ Sydney Ann Haggerty Memorial Fund to benefit families of critically ill children.

The Low Country Senior Softball Association is now accepting individual players for the 2015 fall season. The deadline is Aug. 3, with the season scheduled to begin Aug. 17. The cost per season is $35. The league is for players age 50 and older, with games played Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 6:45 or 8 p.m. at MWV/Kapstone Park in North Charleston.
