Lonnie East IV scored a narrow victory in the 23rd annual Charleston Inshore Anglers Sheepshead Tournament, weighing an 11.48-pound sheepshead. Tom Benton was second with an 11.24-pound catch, followed by Roy Owens, 9.34; Mark Bollenberg, 8.2; Paul Pundt, 8.16; Gary Wilson, 7.7; James Vealey, 7.28; Bruce Williams, 7.26; Jeff Brown, 6.48; and Jordan Chastain, 6.44. Gene Broderick won the dogfish award with a 1.52-pound catch. The tournament drew 131 anglers.
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources will hold two youth fishing rodeos locally — Saturday, Goose Creek, 519 Goose Creek Blvd., 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and May 16, Bulls Bay Nature Festival Rodeo, Sewee Center, Awendaw, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Youth ages 6-15 must be accompanied by an adult and no adult fishing will be allowed. Bring your own fishing equipment and tackle. Bait may be provided at some of the rodeos.

Charleston Sail and Power Squadron will provide free vessel safety checks from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 16 at the W.O. Thomas public boat ramp on the Ashley River.
