Lowcountry players dot all-state soccer teams

Lowcountry schools are well represented on the all-state and all-star soccer teams announced this week by the S.C. High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Representing South Carolina in the Clash of the Carolinas boys game set for July 12 at Blackbaud Stadium are keeper Brady Allardice of Academic Magnet, forward Alex Bourland and defender Andrew Martens of Wando and defender Garrett Glaze of James Island.

On the girls team for Clash of the Carolinas are keeper Logan Nelson of Wando and midfielder Morgan Powers of West Ashley.

The North-South Soccer Classic, pitting players from the Lower State against the Upper State, is set for June 28 at Blackbaud Stadium.

On the South boys team will be Stockton Blanchard of Ashley Ridge, Christopher Corontzes and Jackson Karolczyk of Wando, Logan Devereux of Hanahan, Alex Lanning of Academic Magnet, Luis Lemus of Stall, Juan Villa-Bailey of West Ashley and Spencer Wilder of Fort Dorchester.

The South girls team will include Sara Goodwin of Ashley Ridge, Julia Shahid and Regan Van Metre of Bishop England, Casey Murakami and Amy Paparozzi of West Ashley, Greyson Vevon of James Island and Allie Winglosky of Wando.

The boys Class AAAA all-state team includes senior defender Andrew Martens and junior forward Nick Wright of Wando and senior keeper Stockton Blanchard of Ashley Ridge. The girls' AAAA team features senior keeper Logan Nelson and sophomore defender Ellen Hayes of Wando.

On the AAA boys all-state team are Garrett Glaze and Lars Bentley of James Island.

The Class AA boys all-state team includes Alex Lanning, Brady Allardice, Colton Frankel and Ray Nugent of Academic Magnet. On the AA-A girls team are Alexis Polcyn, Becca Bosch, Jesse Dooley and Marin Miller of Academic Magnet and Erin Moriarty, Julia Shahid and Logan Leask of Bishop England.

Charleston Charter senior midfielder Malik McDonald made the Class A boys all-state team.

James Island's Garrett Glaze was named player of the year and Trojans coach Todd Robinson the coach of the year on the all-Region 8-AAA boys soccer team.

Also from James Island on the team are Lars Bentley, Evan Tanner, Bryce Downing and Brad Franklin.

The team also includes Miguel Ceron, Noa Pagataptan and Eno Torres of Hilton Head, Moe Abdallah and Carlos Garduza of Stall, Lorgan Devereux and Kal Goble of Hanahan and Vance Bailey of Berkeley.
