HANAHAN -- After a two-hour lightning delay and a second suspension of play, the final round of the SCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Yeamans Hall Club was canceled Sunday and Matt Laydon and Darrell Connelly were declared tournament champions.

The local pair had an opening round of 62 that held up as the winning score.

With severe storms in the area and dwindling opportunities to get the remainder of the field through the final 18 holes safely, the final results were based on the first- round scores.

Tied for second, one shot back, were the teams of Tre Sheppard-Bill Smunk, Josh Branyon-Matt Davis and Cordes Ford-Frank Ford III.

The field consisted of 63 two-man teams playing best-ball format conducted over 36 holes. The Mid-Am is one of 19 major championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.
