Lewellen wins bronze in National Junior Olympics

Lewellen wins bronze in National Junior Olympics Jessie James Lewellen, a DuBose Middle School student from Summerville, won the bronze medal in the National Junior Olympics boxing competition held in Charleston, W.Va. Lewellen won the South Carolina Junior Olympics title in the 132-pound, 13-14 age group category held at Hurricane Boxing in Charleston, then won the Southeast Region title in Macon, Ga. In the nationals, Lewellen scored a unanimous decision over No. 1 seed Derek Cintron of Bronx, N.Y., in the quarterfinals, then lost a controversial 2-1 decision in the semifinals. Lewellen, who trains at the School of Hard Knox in Summerville and is coached by his father John Henry Lewellen, has a 26-3 record. Photo Provided.
