Matt Laydon fired a 2-under-par 70 Saturday and grabbed the second-round lead in the Charleston City Amateur golf championship being played at Municipal Golf Course.
Combined with an opening-round 69, Laydon's 139 total gave him a one-shot lead over Justin Hare, who posted a 1-under 71 on Saturday.
Caulder Moore is third at 69--141, while five-time winner Bert Atkinson, who was tied for the opening-round lead, slipped to fourth with a 74--142. Clinton Knisley is fifth at 71--143
Tom Bullock, the 2007 winner who was tied with Atkinson after the opening round, shot 79 and is tied for 14th at 147.
Austin Parks had the low round of the day, a 5-under 67 that put him in a tie for seventh at 145.
Laydon was 1-over on the front nine after back-to-back bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes. He made four birdies on the back nine at 10, 12, 15 and 17, along with a bogey on the 11th.
After shooting 35 on the front nine, Hare started the back nine with a birdie on 10 and bogey on 11. He double-bogeyed the par-5 15th but recorded an eagle-2 on the par-4 17th to shoot even par on the back nine.
The field was divided into flights for today's final round, with the leaders teeing off at 2:21 p.m.
