Cody Koback lined an RBI triple into the right-field corner in the ninth inning to give the Greenville Drive a 3-2 win over the Charleston RiverDogs in South Atlantic League baseball in front of 2,718 at Riley Park on Monday night.
The rally that produced the winning run for the Drive (45-49 overall, 11-13 second half) started when Henry Ramos singled to right. Two batters later, Koback ripped a triple off Nick Goody (0-1) to score the go-ahead run.
Matty Ott then closed out the RiverDogs (53-39, 14-11) in the ninth for his fourth save.
“That was a tough loss. Greenville came up with a big hit in the ninth to win it,” said RiverDogs manager Carlos Mendoza.
The Drive went up 2-0 in the first against Matt Bashore before Charleston answered.
The RiverDogs cut the lead to one in the sixth when Ali Castillo doubled and scored on a fielder’s choice. In the seventh, Charleston tied the game when Eduardo Sosa doubled and scored on a two-out RBI single by Cody Grice.
Greenville pitcher Mickey Pena took advantage of the RiverDogs “Tweet A Song Request” promotion and the RiverDogs obliged playing “Money” by The Drums.
Charleston right-hander Brett Gerritse (2-4, 4.25 ERA) faces left-hander Henry Owens (9-2, 4.72 ERA) in today’s noon start. Fans who purchase tickets at the Riley Park box office can get buy-one, get-one tickets. The game also is Big Splash Day as The Joe gets turned into a water park for the day.
