Miguel Alvarez went 2 for 4 with two RBI singles, and the BlueClaws' bullpen limited the RiverDogs to just one baserunner over the final four innings, as Lakewood defeated Charleston, 4-2, in a South Atlantic League game Sunday in front of 2,927 fans at Riley Park.

Lakewood (14-15) won for the seventh time in nine head-to-head meetings with Charleston this season. The RiverDogs (12-18) have lost 11 of their last 14 games.

The BlueClaws got on the scoreboard first in the third inning. Edgar Duran served a single to centerfield and advanced to second on a balk with no outs. Duran then made his way around the bases on a pair of groundouts, the latter on an RBI by Torre Langley.

Jim Murphy parked his eighth home run of the season to extend the BlueClaws' advantage to 2-0 in the fourth.

The middle of the RiverDogs' order pieced together two base hits in the fourth to cut the deficit to 2-1. Jose Mojica lined a single to right field and made the 270-foot trek home, when Rob Segedin hammered a payoff pitch into the left-centerfield gap for an RBI double.

Alvarez pushed the Lakewood advantage back to two runs at 3-1 with a two-out RBI single in the sixth.

Mojica scored his second run of the game in the last of the inning, after his leadoff double chased starter Jesse Biddle (1-4). J.R. Murphy hit an RBI single to right field to drive in Mojica and trim the score to 3-2.

Right-hander Shane Greene (2-2, 4.22 ERA) will take the mound today as the RiverDogs usher in a four-game series with West Virginia beginning at 7:05 p.m. at Riley Park.
