The James Island Trojans 13-15 Babe Ruth All Star Baseball team defeated Landrum, 15-5, in five innings to win the state tournament Sunday at Bees Landing Recreation Complex.
James Island beat Landrum (11-1) and Mount Pleasant (10-1) to reach the championship game.
On Sunday, James Island lost the first game to Landrum, 2-1, but cruised in the second game to claim the title. Hunter Chinnis started on the mound for James Island and held Landrum to five runs. Timmy Latto closed out the win.
Dougie Smith went 3 for 4, while Hunter Mixson and Zane Taylor both hit two doubles combined for six RBIs.
James Island advances to the Babe Ruth 13-15 Regionals in Ocala, Fla., starting Aug. 2.
N. Chas. to play for Dixie Majors state title
North Charleston routed Lancaster, 11-0, then got past Greer, 5-0, to advance to the Dixie Majors state championship game today at 5 p.m. needing one win against Lexington. Lexington must win twice to win the title, with the champion advancing to the Dixie Majors World Series in Laurel, Miss.
In the first game, Austin Weekley threw five shutout innings, while Steven Hansen went 3 for 4 with five RBIs, Lawton Hendricks was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Alex Christmas 3 for 4.
Against Greer, James Reeves picked up the win with Weekley earning the save. Austin Livingston went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, while Bobby Ison went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
On Saturday, North Charleston got a grand slam and eight RBIs from Hansen in a 21-3 win over North Augusta, while Erik Samples was 2 for 3 with two steals in a 7-1 win over Pelion.
