Former Gamecocks star Jadeveon Clowney is expected to play in the first game of the Houston Texans’ season, according to ESPN.
The team told the network Friday that the outside linebacker will play against the Kansas City Chiefs, but that they plan to be careful about the amount of playing time he will get.
Clowney, the former South Carolina standout and No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, has battled several injuries. He hurt his right knee in the first regular-season game last year.
After recovering from two surgeries, the 22-year-old appears ready for camp and returning to form, the Texans said.
