High School Football Roundup: Weston leads the way as Summerville rolls past Stall

Summerville's Marquez Spells

Marquez Spells had a strong night rushing the ball for Summerville against Stall on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021.

SUMMERVILLE — In his first varsity start at quarterback for Summerville, junior Harrison Weston led the Green Wave to a 63-12 win over Stall.

Weston, who got the start after Campbell McCurry was injured last week, completed eight passes to five receivers in the first half for more than 200 passing yards and three touchdowns. He threw a 62-yard TD pass to sophomore Ka’Mari Hair, 46-yard TD pass to

senior Dakari McCutchen and 44-yard TD pass to sophomore Yannick Smith that gave Summerville a 57-6 lead entering the third quarter.

“We played well,” Summerville coach Ian Rafferty said. “I challenged them before kickoff to come out and play a complete game and I thought we did that even though we made too many mistakes and had too many penalties. I told you before the season we had a couple of quarterbacks. Harrison just needed some reps and I think he did well tonight.”

Green Wave running back Marquez Spells scored two touchdowns, one on a 3-yard run in the first quarter and one on a 47-yard run in the second. Running back Christian Grant had a 2-yard TD run and Trae Green had a 3-yard TD run, both in the opening quarter.
