High School Football Predictions

Bishop England faces Porter-Gaud Friday night in high school football action in the Lowcountry. Staff/File

“You are what your record says you are.”

Profound words from Chicago Bears and former Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox.

Putting that philosophy into place, The Post and Courier’s Andrew Miller was mediocre last week going 3-3, while ABC News 4 sports anchor Scott Eisberg was outstanding at 5-1. The two prognosticators are now tied for the season at 11-7.

The two differ on three games this week.

Eisberg is confident that Summerville coach Joe Call’s first win as a head coach last week will give the Green Wave the momentum it needs against Goose Creek, which lost by a single point to Ridge View last Friday night. Miller is going with the Gators.

Fort Dorchester has had to rally to keep its perfect record going and the Patriots’ potent offense will be too much for Stratford. Eisberg is picking the Knights.

The two also split on the Bishop England-Porter-Gaud matchup, with Miller taking the Bishops and Eisberg siding with the Cyclones.

Here are this week’s picks:

Goose Creek at Summerville

Eisberg: Boy did the tables turn last week, after a bad loss, Summerville turns around and drops 70 on Berkeley. Goose Creek follows up their win over Dutch Fork with a loss to Ridge View. Summerville, 28-27.

Miller: Summerville’s Joe Call got his first win as head coach of the Green Wave. Only 621 more wins to break his grandfather’s record. No. 2 won’t happen this week. Goose Creek, 24-14.

Stratford at Fort Dorchester

Eisberg: Eye-opening loss for Stratford up at Sumter. Fort Dorchester has been playing with fire lately. I think the wakeup call for Stratford propels them in practice this week to pull off the upset of Fort Dorchester. Stratford, 28-21

Miller: Every team in Region 8-AAAA won last week and every team in Region 7-AAAA lost. I’m going with the winners. Fort Dorchester, 35-20.

West Ashley at Ashley Ridge

Eisberg: Ashley Ridge is for real. We’ve known QB Steven Duncan is a legitimate prospect but with the win over Wando, we see he has some weapons around him. Ashley Ridge, 35-14

Miller: After impressive win over Bishop England, West Ashley stumbles last week against Hilton Head. Steven Duncan will be too much for Wildcats defense. Ashley Ridge, 31-21.

Lexington at Wando

Eisberg: Best game of the night. Lexington is 1-1, both games have been close. Wando is 0-2 but both games even closer. Jimmy Noonan’s bunch makes the necessary adjustments on defense and offense continues to roll. Wando, 32-21.

Miller: Wando has a great passing combo with QB Bailey Hart and WR OrTre Smith. The Warriors will need to shore up defensively. Wildcats top LB Trey Mitchell set to return to lineup. Wando, 28-27.

Colleton County at Orangeburg-Wilkinson

Eisberg: I’ve said it all along, Colleton County is for real this year. Loved watching QB/WR, yes, QB/WR Justin Williams, he’s the real deal as a playmaker. Colleton, 21-10.

Miller: Jumped on the Colleton County bandwagon at the beginning of the season. Don’t see any reason to jump off now. Colleton, 23-13.

Bishop England at Porter-Gaud

Eisberg: John Cantey’s Bishops have lost badly, but against far bigger teams only making them better. Porter-Gaud is rolling through SCISA competition. They meet in the middle. Porter-Gaud, 14-13.

Miller: Bishop England uses a tough non-conference schedule to get ready for region play. Bishops’ early schedule helps them in this one. Bishop England, 21-17.

Eisberg: 5-1 last week. 11-7 overall.

Miller: 3-3 last week. 11-7 overall.
