Despite an Internet report to the contrary, The Citadel football coach Kevin Higgins says he has not offered anyone the job of offensive coordinator. And he's still considering Bulldogs line coach Bob Bodine for the job, Higgins said Monday.

The website footballscoop.com reported over the weekend that Lenoir-Rhyne offensive coordinator Brent Thompson had been offered the job by The Citadel, which is seeking to replace Tommy Laurendine.

Higgins said Monday that report was wrong, and that he has not spoken to Thompson in more than a year. Reached by phone Monday morning, Thompson declined comment.

Higgins said he met with Bodine for three hours on Friday to talk about the job, and that one of two scenarios are likely: He will promote Bodine to offensive coordinator and hire a new slotbacks coach, or he will hire a new coordinator who will also coach the slotbacks.

Either way, he'll be hiring a new coach.

"I will be talking to a lot of people," Higgins said. "It's got to be the right mesh -- recruiting, organizational skills, a good fit for The Citadel.

"I'll be researching backgrounds of various guys, who they've worked for, how their coaches felt about them. I need to do an intensive search, and I will probably be speaking to eight or 10 guys."

Higgins said there's no rush to replace Laurendine, who left last week to become head coach at Sewanee, and that he hopes to have a coach in place by May 15.
