A 2-over-par 74 Wednesday gave Charleston’s Katie Rose Higgins a two-shot lead heading into today’s final round of the Women’s Carolinas Amateur golf championship at Yeamans Hall Club.
Higgins, who just finished her sophomore season at the University of South Carolina, is at even-par 144 in the 54-hole tournament.
Higgins’ closest challengers are College of Charleston golfers Kathryn Miranda of Lexington and Stacey Tomlinson of Greeleyville. Miranda, who just completed her sophomore season for the Cougars, shot 76 for a 146 total, while Tomlinson, an incoming freshman, shot 75 and also is at 146.
Katelyn Dambaugh of Goose Creek, who has committed to play for South Carolina, had the day’s best round, a 1-under-71 and climbed five spots into fourth place at 147.
Carole Jones of Hillsborough, N.C., leads the players in the Carolinas Tee (shorter course) division at 78-77—155 and is also the super seniors leader. Patty Moore of Charlotte is at 152 and leads the seniors by two shots over Angela Stewart of Greenville, N.C.
A field of 96 golfers is competing in the tournament. A 9 a.m. shotgun start is set for today.
