Hendley up by 8 in S.C. Senior

Todd Hendley of Greer once again posted the best score of the day with a 5-under-par 67 Wednesday and upped his lead to 8 shots in the 57th South Carolina Golf Association Senior Championship being played at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw.

Coupled with an opening-round 66, Hendley is at 11-under-par 133 heading into Thursday’s final round of the tournament for amateurs 55 and older.

Mike Weiner of Kiawah Island made a run up the leaderboard with a 68, the day’s second-best score, to move into a tie for second place at 141 with former champion Frank Ford III of Charleston. Ford posted a 2-under 70. Jack Stone of North Charleston shot 73 and is fourth at 142, while Duff Wagner of Taylors is alone in fifth at 72—143.

Exactly 60 players made the 36-hole cut with scores of 154 or better.

Hendley made seven birdies Wednesday, the same as in Tuesday’s opening round, but had two bogeys, both on the back nine. He birdied three of Bulls Bay’s five par-3s Wednesday.

Weiner made six birdies but had a double bogey on the par-5 second hole.
