MONCKS CORNER -- Patrick Alston scored three touchdowns, one on a 94-yard kickoff return, as Hanahan (1-4) edged Berkeley, 24-21, on Friday night.

Alston got things going for the Hawks in the first quarter with an 8-yard scoring run. Berkeley (1-4) responded when Diomontae Harley ran the ball in from 21 yards out, but then the Hawks answered with Alston's kickoff return for a TD.

The Stags tied the score just before halftime when Matthew Harkness completed a 7-yard TD pass to Devante White with 45 seconds remaining.

In the third quarter, Alston scored again on an 8-yard scoring strike from Anthony Smalls. A Case Spigner 31-yard field goal put the Hawks up, 24-14.

Berkeley added a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, a 1-yard dive by Harley, his second score of the night, with 41 seconds left in the game.

Berkeley begins its Region 7-AAA schedule on the road next week against Hilton Head, while Hanahan travels to Garrett Tech to kick off Region 6-AA play.
