Stingrays 2, Wings 1
Kalamazoo, Mich. -- Forward Mike Hamilton scored the game-winning goal in his Stingrays debut, and Philipp Grubauer made 31 saves to lead the South Carolina Stingrays past the Kalamazoo Wings with a 2-1 win at Wings Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Stingrays improve to 18-16-1-1 with the win, while the Wings fell to 19-12-1-2.
Wings forward Justin Taylor opened the scoring late in the first period, tapping a pass from forward Nick Sirota between the legs of Grubauer at 18:48.
Just over a minute later, Stingrays defenseman Paul Baier scored his second goal of the season, ripping a shot over the glove of Wings keeper Riley Gill (36 saves on 38 shots) at the 19:51 mark.
Hamilton scored the go-ahead goal at the 7:21 mark of the third period, deflecting a feed from forward Chris Doyle past the glove of Gill on top of the crease. Forward David de Kastrozza grabbed the second assists.
Both teams finished the night 0 for 1 on the power play.
South Carolina will face off against the Trenton Titans for the first time this season at 7 p.m. Friday at the Sun National Bank Center.
The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Jan. 20 against the Greenville Road Warriors.
