Four of the top five finishers, including 2014 champion Savannah Hallman, will be competing in the Ladies City Amateur golf championship that begins Friday at Charleston Municipal Golf Course.

Hallman, a Wando graduate who plays for Charleston Southern, won the Ladies City Amateur title by eight strokes over defending champion Colleen Estes.

Hallman shot a final-round 68 to finish at 2-under 142 and record her first tournament victory. A year before her victory, Hallman carried an 18 handicap but worked with Rickey Sullivan at the Ranch at Bulls Bay and whittled her handicap to 1.1.

Estes, who finished solo second, also returns along with 2009 winner Victoria Tsurutis and fifth-place finisher Ansley Vaughan. The only missing member is 13-time champion Lea Anne Brown, who has another commitment.

Jeannie Hillock, who beat Sandy Bland by one shot to win the Senior Championship for golfers 60 and older, also will defend her title.

Forty-three players are competing in the tournament, with Friday’s tee times ranging from 8-9:50 a.m.

Drayton Stewart of James Island led wire-to-wire and won the 13-14 age group in the South Carolina Golf Association Junior Championship played at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach.

Christian Salzer of Sumter won the overall title with a score of 216.

Stewart, 14 and a rising freshman at James Island Charter High School, shot 75-73-76—224 and finished six strokes ahead of runner-up Drew Weary of Bluffton. Stewart finished in a tie for sixth overall as did Wil Sheppard of Mount Pleasant.

Jamie Wilson of Mount Pleasant finished 13th in the Boys 15-17 age group.

Stewart and Sheppard also qualified for the eight-man team that will represent the Palmetto State in the 40th Annual Georgia-South Carolina Junior Team Matches to be played July 24-25 at Berkeley Hall Club in Bluffton.
