BEAUFORT--Goose Creek trailed 9-0 early in Friday night's game against Beaufort, but rallied for a 31-19 victory to finish the regular season with a 10-1 record.

The Gators grabbed the lead before the first half was done and manufactured lengthy drives during the second half behind fullback Virgil Smalls, who finished with 155 yards on 26 carries and a pair of scores.

Goose Creek coach Chuck Reedy said his Gators might have lost focus as they prepared for the playoffs, that having coasted so easily to that point allowed them not to approach the Eagles correctly.

"It was a very good test," Reedy said. "We learned a lesson tonight."
