Godfrey reassigned to Rays from AHL Hershey

South Carolina Stingrays

Defenseman Josh Godfrey was reassigned to the Stingrays by the AHL's Hershey Bears, South Carolina coach Cail MacLean said.

Godfrey has skated in 44 games with the Stingrays this season, with 24 points (13 g, 11 a) and is first among ECHL defensemen in goals, power-play goals (9) and shots (147). The third-year pro played in the 2011 ECHL All-Star game.

Citadel honors

The Citadel's Justin Sparrow was named Southern Conference wrestler of the week.

The redshirt junior beat both his 184-pound class opponents in duels in the state of North Carolina and at home against Gardner-Webb. Against UNC, Sparrow upset No. 22-ranked Antonio Giorgio in a 6-5 win. Since Jan. 1, he is 12-3.

--Citadel basketball player Mike Groselle was named the SoCon's student-athlete of the week. The center, who holds a 3.658 GPA in civil engineering, posted back-to-back double-doubles in points and rebounds.

College golf

The College of Charleston's Alex Ellis was named SoCon men's golfer of the week. The freshman shot 70-69--139, 5 under, to place second at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational in St. George, Utah.
