The Bishop England girls soccer team is in the underdog role this year. That might mean they are primed for a big upset.

The Bishops topped Swansea 1-0 Friday at Jack Cantey Stadium to reach the Lower State Championship against Academic Magnet on Monday. Academic Magnet is the team that upset the Bishops last year, ending the Bishops' run of state championship appearances at nine.

This year, Academic Magnet is the No. 1 seed while the Bishops are in an unfamiliar role as the No. 2 seed.

"They get all the press," Bishop England coach Dave Snyder said after his team improved to 15-7. "Everyone seems to think they are the team to be. I read the newspaper today, and we have the same goals as they do and that's to win the state. We've worked just as hard."

Bishop England won nine state titles in the first decade of the 2000s and Academic Magnet is seeking its first title. The teams' showdown will be at North Charleston.

Friday, the Bishops posted a shutout in a physical game. Molly Moriarity scored the only goal of the match in the 36th minute. Julianne Dahlman recorded the shutout against Swansea (17-3).
