SAVANNAH — Ben Gamel drove in four runs in Game 1 of a doubleheader to spark the Charleston RiverDogs to a 9-7 win over the Savannah Sand Gnats in South Atlantic League action on Saturday night at Historic Grayson Stadium.
In Game 2, Jim Fuller pitched five no-hit innings for Savannah in a 1-0 win over Charleston (49-35, 10-7 second half) with 2,028 spectators on hand.
After falling behind on a Cody Grice RBI single in the second inning of the opener, Savannah (47-37, 6-11) quickly erased the deficit in the bottom half to take a 4-1 lead.
Charleston got a run back in the fifth when Dante Bichette, Jr. scored all the way from first on a double by Tyson Blaser.
Down 7-2, the RiverDogs erupted in the sixth. Cito Culver and Grice singled and Ali Castillo reached on an error to load the bases. Gamel smacked a double into left to score two runs, and that brought up Bichette. With one swing, the third baseman tied the game at 7, launching a three-run homer over the left-field wall, his second of the year.
Pedro Guerra (4-1) pitched a scoreless sixth for the win and sealed the game with a perfect seventh.
Coming up RHP Scottie Allen (3-4, 5.10 ERA) will take the ball for the RiverDogs today at 2 p.m. against RHP Domingo Tapia (4-2, 3.62 ERA), who will start for the Sand Gnats.
