Gamecocks remain No. 2 in AP women’s basketball poll

COLUMBIA — The South Carolina women’s basketball team remained No. 2 behind Connecticut in the latest AP Top 25 poll released Monday.

The Huskies were unanimous No. 1, receiving all 32 votes from a national media panel. The Gamecocks (4-0) received 37 more votes than third-place Notre Dame. Tennessee and Baylor rounded out the top five.

The Gamecocks remained unbeaten Sunday with a 68-65 victory over UCLA in Los Angeles. South Carolina now heads to Honolulu, where it will play three games in a round-robin event opening Friday against No. 16 Arizona State. USC will also play Cal State-Bakersfield and host Hawaii before returning home.

Duke, South Carolina’s next opponent at Colonial Life Arena, is No. 15. Other SEC teams in the poll this week are No. 8 Mississippi State, No. 10 Texas A&M, and No. 12 Kentucky. Arkansas, Florida and Missouri all received votes.
