Staff report

South Carolina's hopes of landing one of eight national seeds for the NCAA baseball tournament got a boost Monday after the NCAA released its latest RPI rankings.

The Gamecocks are eighth in the new ratings, climbing four spots from a week ago. USC won two games at Vanderbilt last week in the final series of the regular season. Vanderbilt is sixth in the RPI heading into this week's SEC tournament.

The eight national seeds earn the right to host regionals and super regionals. The NCAA uses the RPI as one factor when determining the national seeds for the tournament.

The Gamecocks (42-14, 18-12) are ranked 15th in the latest Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball polls.
