COLUMBIA — Averaging a double-double over a pair of victories earned South Carolina forward Alaina Coates her first SEC Player of the Week Award.
Coates received the honor Tuesday, after averaging 12.5 points and 12 rebounds in victories last week over Ole Miss and Texas A&M. The junior forward shot over 60 percent from the field in both games, and leads the SEC with 11 double-doubles on the season. The 6-4 Irmo native averages 12.2 points on 68 percent shooting for the second-ranked Gamecocks, one of two unbeaten teams in women’s college basketball.
South Carolina (21-0, 9-0 SEC) goes for its 45th consecutive home victory Thursday against No. 18 Kentucky, the last game before a potential No. 1 versus No. 2 showdown against top-ranked and undefeated Connecticut Monday at Colonial Life Arena.
