Furman sweeps series vs. Citadel

Andrew MacLatchie belted a two-run home run and Matthew Quarles pitched six effective innings to help Furman beat The Citadel, 4-1, and complete the three-game series sweep on Sunday at Riley Park.

The win gave the Paladins (20-14, 8-7 SoCon) their first regular season series sweep of The Citadel (15-30, 5-10) since 1968.

The Citadel scored its lone run in the fifth inning on a Stephen Windham RBI double. The Bulldogs threatened an inning later, loading the bases with one out, but Quarles got out of the jam by striking out Jason Smith swinging on a full count and retiring Shy Phillips on a force play at home plate.
