Limited space precludes The Post and Courier from tracking all state players in minor league baseball every week. But this week, we'll catch up with players from Furman and Wofford.

Former Furman and Cleveland Indians pitcher Tom Mastny is back in the U.S. after playing in Japan last season. The 29-year-old was 1-5 with a 5.69 earned-run average in 15 games for the Yokohama Bay Stars in 2009.

This season, the right-hander is 0-0 with a 1.64 ERA in two starts for the New Orleans Zephyrs, the Triple-A Pacific Coast League affiliate of the Florida Marlins.

Mastny made 80 appearances for Cleveland in the big leagues, going 9-5 with a 6.13 ERA and five saves. He was an 11th-round draft choice by Toronto out of Furman in 2003.
