Hanahan (5-0, 0-0) at Orangeburg-Wilkinson (5-0, 0-0)
LAST YEAR: Hanahan won, 40-7
COACHES: Charlie Patterson, Hanahan; Tommy Brown, Orangeburg-Wilkinson
NOTABLE: The winner of this game will be the team to beat in Region 8-AAA. Hanahan has been pretty much unstoppable. Quarterback Mason Schwerzler and running back Quan Wade are two reasons why the Hawks have averaged 49.0 points a game. They will challenge a Bruin defense that allows 8.8 points a game.
KEEP AN EYE ON: O-W quarterback Austin Bradley. He was 12 of 20 for 216 yards and four TDs in last week’s 28-21 win over Richland Northeast.
DID YOU KNOW: Hanahan has shut out two foes so far this season.
Goose Creek (5-0) at Beaufort (5-0)
LAST YEAR: Goose Creek won, 65-14
COACHES: Chuck Reedy, Goose Creek; Mark Clifford, Beaufort
NOTABLE: Goose Creek’s offense continues to put up big numbers. The Gators enter this non-region showdown averaging 537 yards in total offense, including 429 on the ground. The Gators will be challenged by a Beaufort defense that is allowing only 14 points per game and has already recorded two shutouts. The Eagles have made a huge improvement after last year’s 4-7 record.
KEEP AN EYE ON: Goose Creek defensive end Kalan Ritchie. He had 15 tackles in last week’s win over Dutch Fork, including four tackles for a loss.
DID YOU KNOW: Beaufort hasn’t defeated Goose Creek since a 20-13 win in 2005.
Fort Dorchester (3-2) at West Ashley (4-1)
LAST YEAR: Fort Dorchester won, 26-14
COACHES: Steve LaPrad, Fort Dorchester; Bobby Marion, West Ashley
NOTABLE: Fort Dorchester snapped a two-game skid with a 41-13 victory over Wando as lineman Eurndraus Bryant moved to fullback on short-yardage situations and scored three touchdowns. West Ashley, meanwhile, had its four-game winning streak snapped by Summerville. The Wildcats were plagued by turnovers, although the defense played well, limiting the Green Wave to 67 yards on the ground.
KEEP AN EYE ON: Fort Dorchester quarterback Kolbe Garrett. He has accounted for 867 total yards and eight touchdowns.
DID YOU KNOW: Fort Dorchester has never lost to West Ashley, which fielded a football team for the first time in 2000.
