Freshman QB Dupree to start for Citadel

Freshman Ben Dupree will be the starting quarterback in The Citadel's opening game this Saturday against Chowan.

The Citadel will start freshman Ben Dupree at quarterback in Saturday's season opener against Chowan, Bulldogs football coach Kevin Higgins said Thursday morning.

Dupree, from Harrisburg, Pa., beat out fellow freshman Matt Thompson for the starting job. Higgins said both freshmen will play in the game, set for 1 p.m. at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

Dupree, 5-9 and 180 pounds, is the first freshman to start a season opener at QB for the Bulldogs since Mazzie Drummond in 2001.
