JAMES ISLAND — Bluffton is making the transition from Class AAA to Class AAAA look awfully easy.

Quarterback C.J. Frazier threw for 305 yards and six touchdowns as Bluffton trounced James Island, 50-10, on Friday night before a crowd of about 3,000 at Floyd E. Hoitt Field.

The Bobcats (5-0) have been a Class AAA powerhouse for the last few seasons, advancing to the state finals a year ago. The Trojans fell to 2-3.

The step up to Class AAAA has usually been a bumpy affair for most programs, but the Bobcats seem to be handling it with ease.

The Bobcats, who are playing at the Class AAAA level for the first time this season, have outscored their first five opponents by a 256-18 margin.

Of course having a quarterback like Frazier can make any transition a whole lot easier.

Frazier completed 16 of 23 passes while, tossing TD passes of 24, 83, 10, 30, 4, and 38 yards on the night. His first two passes of the night went for touchdowns.

“C.J. is an excellent quarterback,” said Bluffton coach Ken Cribb. “He was really sharp tonight. His accuracy was outstanding. He got off to a fast start and we kind of rode that momentum the rest of the game.”

For the season, Frazier, a senior, is 46 of 76 for 792 yards and 16 touchdowns. This was after throwing for 2,898 yards and 49 TDs as a junior in 2011.

“C.J. knows this offense inside and out,” Cribb said.

“People think he’s a systems quarterback, but he can make all the throws. He’s a natural-born quarterback. He had a great game tonight.”

It took the Bobcats offense four plays to get a two touchdown lead. Facing a 3rd-and-6 at the Trojans 24, Frazier slipped out of a tackle, rolled to his right and found Vinny Boni in the end zone for a TD.

After a James Island punt, Frazier found Marquis Webber down the right sideline for an 83-yard bomb and a quick 14-0 lead.

Webber finished with five receptions for 110 yards and three TDs, while Demetrius Smalls had six catches for 115 yards and another score.

“C.J. has some weapons in Demetrius and Marquis,” Cribb said.

“The offense was clicking.”
